Engine Air Intake

Post by bobholiday »

Where does an inboard get air from when the cockpit sole is closed? Is it simply getting enough from the gaps in the cockpit sole cover? Or am I missing something?

Thanks!

General leaks here and there I think. The space under floor boards ( is that where the bilges begin?) in many boats I think.

As said, often from holes and cracks here and there. Some boats, mine included have two dedicated 4" Dia. air hoses leading to a couple of vents in the cockpit. Probably necessary as after fitting a new engine, insulation, new hatch seals and having a 'sealed' bilge compartment under the engine, there are not many places where air can get in easily.
