Well, it's all very quiet............
I suppose its that time of the year when nothing much gets done. It's the run up to Christmas, the weather is shite and no one is thinking about sailing really
Well, off to the boat this weekend! , even if it is only to do some work
Roll on the spring.

Is your boat on land now? Or are you taking advantage of the inevitable good weather now and then, combined with nobody else out on the water?

Yes, ashore. Insurance mandate it's out before 1st November. Would love to have taken advantage of winter weather but too far away and only available at weekends so out of luck there too! Still, it's an opportunity to rescue the nearly out of date Pot Noodle I left in the galley cupboard (before it spoils) . Seem to also have left half my clothes on board so seem to be dressed cica 1995 at the moment .
Re: Well, it's all very quiet............
No one thinking about sailing ?? It's great and all free...........Yealm is free ,Salcombe H Dues only , Fowey free iunless they can be bothered to collect which isn't often . Having some great times this winter and easy on the pocket ....... Not even run the Eber yet !! Long may it continue . No point staying in PYH during the winter .......showers and bogs being revamped ....everything being ripped out and starting again with family rooms , wet rooms and baths etc The down side is no laundry, portacabin bogs with only three showers and only a fan heater to heat the whole porta cabin ...... Shite really oh and car parking drastically reduced due to increased boat stowage(presumably people panicking due to last year's gales) and spaces taken up by contractors accommodation . Not expected to be finished till April !!!Discus wrote:I suppose its that time of the year when nothing much gets done. Mess is an understatement Its absolutely awful Wouldn't be so bad if they reimbursed berth holders with say £100 as a sweetner to say sorry if the mega hassle. The bogs are worse than that in a POW camp and we are paying £4 1/2 K for the privilege !!Discus wrote:Terry, sounds like a bit of a mess at Yacht Haven - still, should be good next spring, but it seems a long way off!
As you say probably ok when finished but that is little comfort for the next 6 months . Poor winter visitors must be right peed of to find such poor facilities but still paying full overnight fees .
Anyway we hope to push off somewhere else next year .
How's life " dirt side" Jeff ?? Expect your all very excited awaiting your new arrival . Bet Nina is excited about Xmas this year too. Takes me back a year or two ......... Several decades ago in fact ...........even the grandkids are in their late teens now so Xmas is a bit of an adult affair now so not all bad !!
Regards
terry
Poor you Terry. LOL @ Rob
We're OK. About to put up the Chrimbo tree. I'm keeping myself occupied by chopping the endless amount of kindling we need to light the open fire daily, and the Rayburn when it goes out. Rose managed to cook Nina's birthday cake in the Rayburn the other day which I suspect means we're starting to get the hang of it, though it took a whole day to get it to sit roughly at the right temperature for the hour and a half needed. Good results tho!
Oh, and we have a new lodger, a large, very very cunning (cannot trap it!) rat. Lunar very excited much of the time.
Nina's 3rd birthday party went well...

Hey, there's a kid in the background of that first photo that's really, really eyeing up that cake!! (Looks fantastic BTW).
Ah! An unexpected visit from 'Roland' can be interesting! I am surprised that having a resident terrier, it hasn't suffered a swift dispatch by now. Peanut butter is the ticket to entice a cunning rodent - and a suitable trap of your choice (humane if poss - so he can be 'relocated). Karen's sister had a persistent rat visitor who was getting in and out through the tumble drier vent - need to check for possible points of entry! I see them now and again round here, but fortunately always outside. I think its our proximity to the river Wye. Big buggers some of them!
Nina 3?i'm feeling old now!

Quite often see some 'howlers' by others skippers. I think there is a non linear relationship between experience and cock ups!FSDSMAN wrote:well been over a year now as a novice live - aboard but still here still on board loving it and all sailing restrictions lifted by my insurance company for the new year. No I have not hit anything but seen some very amusing incidents by so-called experienced skippers.
Any plans for next year yet? I suppose you may be heading to France or tge CI's if you arent as restricted
Rob
Yeah everyone keeps suggesting Peanut Butter. Will try it if it returns... but I think it's gone next door now. Lunar was left alone on watch in the kitchen for a few nights so 'Roland' I suspect got hungry.
FSDSMAN - nice one!!
