learning to sale on the coast vs. an inland lake - dinghy

Post by rohantn »

Hello,

I am planning to start the RYA level 1 and 2 dinghy sailing courses.

The nearest dinghy training centre to me has their classes on a lake.
But I intend to do dinghy sailing on the sea after the training.

After completing the level 2 course on a lake, will I have sufficient skills to sail in the sea? Or is it better to do the course with a training provider who teaches in the sea?

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I think a lake sailing course will definitely be useful. You can learn about just sailing without having to worry about seasickness, coldness and waves. Also far less likely to have your course cancelled due to bad weather.

Quite possibly it's the best way to go.
