Polystyrene under cockpitt - can i chuck it out?

Post by Tim »

Hi guys,

I am new to yachts and have found blocks of polystyrene under my cockpitt floor, they dont look like doing much, and could i throw them out so i could use the space for storage? I plan to fit a new floor to the cockpitt so now is a good chance to throw them away.

The boat is a van de stadt 32, its plywood racing yacht in Sydney Australia.

I asked 2 guys over here who have both been into boats for a long time, one said sling them out, the other said i should put them back in once i have finished work under the cockpitt.

Confused as to what i should do with them and the reasons behind it?

Cheers

Tim
