Vapalux/Tilley Type Storm Lamps In Cabin
I've bought a Vapalux M320 for my yacht with the intention of using to provide a little heat and light in the cabin, and be on stand-by as an emergency anchor light. Supposedly (according to the manufacturer) it will run for about 10 hours on a pint of paraffin! Seems like a perfect solution to a lo...

Girlfriends, Boyfriends, Wives, Husbands and Yachts?
I'm new to yachts and am hoping my girlfriend will take to the life of cruising at the weekend with me... but while I was looking around for a yacht to buy, I noticed a lot of people were selling up "because their partner just wasn't interested". Decided to run a little poll to see how thi...

Priming cooling water intake to avoid airlocks...
Priming cooling water intake to avoid airlocks... When running on land, or when returning to the water after beeing on land? On land, I've been holding an extension to the water inlet pipe aloft, while pouring in water from a jug, until it reaches the top of the pipe and doesn't go down any more, th...

Used Yeoman Sport Chartplotting Table
New ones of these go for circa £450, but I do hear of people picking them up for under £100 used.
Anyone got one in good condition that they're willing to part with, please drop me a PM.
Thanks,
Bob

Radio Licence.
I've got my VHF operator's licence, and have just bought my first yacht - which already has a non-DSC VHF installed.
What do I need to do?
I think I need to register the unit on the boat, is that it? Or something else also required?
Thanks,

Engine Air Intake
Where does an inboard get air from when the cockpit sole is closed? Is it simply getting enough from the gaps in the cockpit sole cover? Or am I missing something?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Blimey! Just answered my own question. I emailed these guys:
http://www.leyholdings.com/
And asked where I could source bungs in quantities under 1000 as quoted on their site, and they're sending me exactly what I'm after as a free sample!

Where Can One Buy Cork or Rubber Bungs?
Someone once suggested to me that it's a good idea to keep a bung near to any skin fitting - so that if it should shear off while under way, you can shove a bung in the hole as a temporary fix. I've searched Google for a while, but can't find a source of appropriately sized bungs. Brewing shops sell...

Metal Skin Fittings and Anodes on GRP hulls?
My skin fittings aren't bonded to my anode. Is this likely to cause a problem? They've been in place like this for the best part of 30 years and there's no obvious signs of corrosion - but I guess I could have some de-zincification going on. Should I connect a wire from them to my anode? Or could th...

Origo 3000 Spirit Stove - How easy are they to fit?
How easy is it to fit an Origo 3000? I've removed an original gas 2 ring + grill from a Westerly Centaur... will I be able to use the gimbals from that on the Origo? Or do I need to purchase the Origo ones (which seem a bit expensive IMO at £50)... Oh, and is it worth also buying the pan holders? I'...
