Everything costs more than you'd expect in the yacht world. For example, if you bought a Westerly Centaur (usually sell in the £10k region) you'd need to consider: Bad osomsis - can cost £3k+ to sort. Original engine on its last legs - can cost £4k -> £6k Headlining droop - £2k Keels need re-seating...

PS. Also, cat ketch and junk rigged are similar. No standing rigging. Tacking and gybeing - you just steer and it all happens automatically. Very simple. Less heeling than sloop, and cheaper to maintain. More reliable. Less prone to damage. Cheaper to buy. Less stress on the boat. Why haven't I got ...

I was looking at a Cat Ketch very seriously a few months ago. Gorgeous one available for sale at Weir Quay on the Tamar at the moment. Cat Ketch is VERY easy to sail and has two unstayed masts. Tacking and gybeing - you simply steer the way you want to go. Only drawback is that anything other than a...

He's a she actually... but don't be sucked in to the cuteness - I leaned forwards earlier and made cutesy wootsie noises and the little b***er leaped at me and bit me on the chin!

Seems to me having bought two in the last year - that you can get a LOT of kit for your money when buying a used boat. Often when you look at a particular make/model there's a range of prices - but if you bought the lowest price one which needs everything doing, and use the difference between that a...

I got the first one - but the 3 letter one has me stumped!

I figure it must start and end with the same letter, and have a different letter in the middle... but I went through every letter in the alphabet and came up with nothing.

Guess I need to think laterally. Not feeling too bright now :(

Not so bad down here, but think yourself lucky - I'm in limbo between boats at the moment so I couldn't sail even if I wanted to :(

I hadn't thought of doing it non-stop - hadn't entered my mind. I've zero night sailing experience - would need to be a team effort I guess.

Hopping around as and when the weather permits would be a much more relaxed trip all together - but I suppose much less of a challenge.
