The gentle rocking and sounds of lapping - especially at night. The wildlife. Endless surprise visits by dolphins, otters, cormorants, fish, seals etc etc. The constant comings and goings on the river. The cheery waves and smiles from passing craft of all shapes and sizes. The multiple daily rowing ...

Hi, yep, I'm still here. Didn't see your posts as 'new' for some reason. Must have been scary being underway in such thick fog! Did you sound the appropriate sounds? At least you got a free starter out of it :) We're settling in now. Getting used to the lack of gentle bobbing. Nearly getting the han...

Indeed. And quite affordable too. You could spend a considerable amount of that figure on the windvane steering alone! I wonder if he's including his series drogue with it. If he is, perhaps he's hanging up his oilies for good. If not, he's planning something new perhaps. I would very much like that...

Oh my goodness! One single berth though! Apart from that it's perfect! Wow! Thank you!

Do you know why he's selling it?

Hi Rob. Thanks for thinking of us :)

When I get a spare moment I'll post an official blog post about it all.

How about you? Been doing much afloat?

A waterbed, with a wave generator, a creak generator, a squeak generator and a frap generator, a seagull screech generator and a large weight suspended above it by a horses hair (Damocles style), that needs to be constantly washed, serviced, varnished and generally looked after, and which is impossi...

I suppose even on a beam reach the vectors result in a wind forward of the beam so statistically you are bound to experience apparent upwind sailing more often than any other. I fell in love with the junk concept after reading "voyaging on a small income". You will not talk me out of it I ...

Thanks Rob. 8) We are still aboard, being very careful! Cleaning, polishing, checking and topping up. Towser will be ready to go to sea in style when the new captain takes the helm. My parents have the keys to our new house and have sent photos of the insides with quilts my mum's made on some of the...

Hey Rob. We are not doing anything boat based as Towser is "sale agreed" and in fact the new owners take the helm on Tuesday next week. Which makes it about 4 weeks from first advert to completion, which is astounding! I'm very pleased it's all gone so smoothly and quickly, and excited abo...

I used a company called "Teach-me Interactive". They send software, charts and books etc etc and assign you an RYA qualified yacht master as you tutor. Software was a little clunky but made the point very well. Seem to recall it cost about £250 ish. They are (were? Not checked for 7 years,...

Hi Marc! Welcome!! Yes, you had me going!! :) It sounds like a very sensible and well thought out plan. My first boat was a Westerly Centaur which I bought after doing an online course (RYA Dayskipper - highly recommended) and doing a 2 day sailing trip on a small yacht with an RYA instructor (compe...
