Garmin Bluechart Charts - Dangerous Error!
Hi, a little help please... and just to let you know of something potentially dangerous if navigating in limited visibility by electronic chart alone. Here's a screen shot of my chart software when zoomed to 0.2m viewing a region around the SW of the river Dart (note the pink highlighted zone): http...

Well. An interesting afternoon this has been! I asked for some advice on the Westerly Owners Association Yahoo group, and got some very rapid assistance. I ended up having a chat with the last but one owner of my yacht, and he gave me a load of info about where it was on the all important date. Unsu...

Aaaagh! I'm in the same boat (scuse pun). How stupid! I just called the UK Customs Helpline on 0845 010 9000, and they said the following: Because the purchase was made from a non VAT registered UK individual, no VAT is liable for payment in the UK. However, if you were to leave UK waters and go to ...

Brilliant, thanks for that. I'm thinking that instead of a backup human, you could use two karabiners on two safety lines. Clip them alternately up the rungs of the ladder as you ascend. I've got climging equipment, so could use my climbing harness and a few other bits and bobs with one of those lad...

Mast Climbing Ladder That You Hoist Like a Sail. Any Good?
I can't find them online, but have heard there's a mast climbing ladder that you can simply hoist up the mast, using the track normally used for the sail.
Sounds like an ingenious solution to me.
Are they any good?
Where do you get them?

Which Oilies!
I'm pretty unimpressed with the longevity and price of gore-tex, and I usually try to buy what the professionals use... so I'm thinking outside the box here a little and wondering about getting hold of some of that yellow gear that professional fisherman wear... if you know the stuff I mean? I'm gue...

Anyone got any experience of Sea Start?
I'm thinking of signing up for Sea Start next season. Just for that extra peace of mind.
Does anyone have any experience with them? Good?
Thanks![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

DSC a requirement for marine VHF now?
I've bought a yacht with a VHF set that doesn't have DSC... but it's relatively new and in fully working order, so I'm not keen to buy a replacement.
I'm not overly keen on DSC anyway - the alarms going off all the time annoy me.
But do you HAVE to have DSC now?

Ooh I'm liking the look of that. Unfortunately I've JUST (yesterday) received my Sony (as per pic in the first post) model. Mine's TEENY! It's about the size of a thick paperback! What's the HF and SSB.... and how do you use it with the computer to get weather fax? That's completely new to me. I kno...
